WELCOME TO MY BLOG Conservatarian Thought, By Steve Hoffman First about me – I’m a past member of the Libertarian Party, was on the National Platform Committee in 2000. After 14 years with the LP, I got tired of banging my head against the wall trying to elect libertarians to public office. I noticed that within the Republican Party a movement was underway – the liberty movement - with people like Justin Amash, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, etc… So, in 2008 I jumped over to an organization called the Republican Liberty Caucus. It has been a rewarding experience helping to elect people to all levels of government who are dedicated to the principles of limited government, individual rights, and free market economics. I am now an At-Large Director with that organization. So why have I started a blog dealing with Conservatarian thought? First, I truly believe there is a growing movement within the Republican Party to move that party in a more conservative and libertarian direction. The two philosophies are not the same, but share many principles. It is in the junction of these two philosophies where many of us reside in our political world. To better understand the Conservatarian mindset, you should read The Conservatarian Manifesto by Charles C.W. Cooke. He states that you may be a Conservatarian if when you are engaged in a discussion with your conservative friends, you often think; “I’m sure glad I’m not a conservative”. And conversely when you are engaged in conversations with your libertarian friends, you often think; “I’m sure glad I’m not a libertarian”. If you have experienced this dilemma, you are probably a “Conservatarian”. This blog will look at current events and interpret / comment on them from a Conservatarian perspective. That is the primary purpose of this blog. A secondary purpose of this blog is to convince Republicans that the future of their party rests on the ability of the party to move in both the conservative and libertarian directions. Obviously the challenge will be maintaining the proper balance of conservative and libertarian positions on the issues of the day. This is where I hope the readers of this blog can provide valuable input and direction. Now that you know a little about who I am and the purpose of this blog, I hope you will be a regular visitor and help to move the Republican Party in the direction of limited government, individual rights, and free market economics.
